Rais Case is inspired by beautiful textiles and strives to make pieces that will hold a special place in your life. I aim to create artistically driven products that mix street style, practical living, with a strong sense of craftsmanship.
I believe in using sustainable materials and creating products that sustain. Don't you love finding things you love and using them over and over? My hope is that my bags, pillows and accessories will earn that place in your life.
ABOUT ME
My name is Julie Ellis. My maiden name is Rais, (pronounced race), which has inspired me to name my business, RAIS CASE.
I was born and raised in just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. I went to Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio) and studied art education. In 2004, I moved to San Diego to pursue a career in teaching and have been teaching at Canyon Crest Academy since 2005. I am an maker, a teacher and an entrepreneur. Creating and designing satisfies my inert need to think differently and live creatively. Being a high school art teacher allows me to encourage my students to do the same. And my entrepreneural instincts have led me to starting Rais Case.
HOW IT STARTED
In August 2010, it started with the simple desire to find a stylish laptop case amidst a sea of sameness, and it slowly blossomed into the vibrant brand you see today.
I started with a prototype and over time I developed a series of bags to meet my needs and the needs of my friends. With each design, new features were introduced: a strap here, the perfect zipper there, and hardware that created an edge and durability.
In 2013 I launched my pillow line because I found joy in seeing the textiles I was using for my bags in my home.
What seemed an effort in creating something effortless and chic has become a study of quality, engineering, fashion and art. Repurposed materials like burlap, leather and brightly colored blankets helped create a rich canvas for my ideas.
I have managed to build RAIS CASE slowly while teaching art full-time at Canyon Crest Academy. I love the challenge of inspiring students to find and pursue their creative passions., and for me, RAIS CASE is a way of walking the walk.
